Human internal organs in 3D
The internal organs, or viscera, are the organs of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, such as the heart, lungs, liver, stomach, intestines and kidneys, together with glands such as the pancreas and the endocrine glands. Each belongs to an organ system, for example the respiratory, digestive or urinary system. In this free 3D model you can see the organs in their place inside the body, isolate any of them and separate them system by system.
Image: Cogni Anatomy · CC BY-SA 4.0 · Sources: BodyParts3D, Z-Anatomy- The liver is the largest internal organ, about 1.5 kg in adults
- The liver is divided into 8 functional (Couinaud) segments
- The right lung has 3 lobes, the left lung 2
- The 2 kidneys lie against the posterior abdominal wall, the right slightly lower than the left
- The diaphragm separates the thoracic organs from the abdominal organs
Organs by region
In the thorax, the lungs fill the pleural cavities on either side of the mediastinum, which holds the heart, trachea, esophagus and thymus. Below the diaphragm, the liver and gallbladder lie on the right, the stomach and spleen on the left, the pancreas behind the stomach, and the small and large intestines below them. The kidneys and adrenal glands lie behind the peritoneum against the posterior abdominal wall. The pelvis contains the urinary bladder, the rectum and the internal reproductive organs.
What the 3D model shows
The model shows the heart and the organs of the respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive, endocrine and lymphatic systems, with the skeleton as see-through context. It includes the trachea, main bronchi, segmental bronchial trees and the lobes of both lungs; the tongue, salivary glands, esophagus, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, appendix, colon and rectum; the liver in its segments with the gallbladder and bile ducts; the pancreas and spleen; the kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra; the heart chambers and valves; the pituitary, pineal and adrenal glands and the thymus; and the male reproductive organs.
How to study the organs
Start in the anterior view and name what you see before removing anything: lungs, heart, liver, stomach, transverse colon. Use the explode slider to separate the organs by system, then isolate one system and follow its path, for example air from the trachea to the segmental bronchi, or food from the esophagus to the rectum. Use the section tool to cut through the abdomen and see which organs lie in front of others. Then name the organs of each region from memory and check yourself in the model.

Questions
What is the largest internal organ?
The liver, which weighs about 1.5 kg in adults and lies in the upper right abdomen under the diaphragm. The skin is larger overall, but it is an external organ.
Which organs are in the abdomen?
The stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen and the small and large intestines, with the kidneys and adrenal glands behind the peritoneum. The bladder, rectum and internal reproductive organs lie below in the pelvis.
Is this 3D organ model free?
Yes. The organ model and the rest of the atlas are free to use in the browser, without an account.
